In Book One, "Lost," we learn that one moment Boomer and Matilda were playing with their friends in the bush in Australia and the next, they were being transported to the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin Texas!  Boomer, a kangaroo from New South Wales Australia, and Matilda, a koala from Queensland Australia had never traveled out of their homeland. On the final leg of their journey, the truck in which they were being transported, spun out of control in a violent rainstorm. As a result, the truck flipped on its side, and slid for several yards before stopping. Their crates were tossed about inside the truck and when the truck stopped sliding, the doors of their crates sprang open, as did the doors to the truck itself. Boomer and Matilda, shaken but uninjured, found themselves in an unknown land, in a bad storm, and in the dark. 

They were frightened, tired, hungry, and lost!

 In Book Two, "Batty," the adventures of Boomer and Matilda continue as they temporarily settle into an abandoned boxcar where they feel safe. Not knowing where they are or where they are going, their friendship grows stronger as they learn to work together for their mutual survival.

One morning, they awake to find that an intruder moved in overnight and is now claiming the boxcar as his own. Much to their dismay, they find themselves in battle with a bat with an attitude, who is trying to kick them out of their newly found home!  Will he succeed?
